Skonto Būve Ltd. performed the renovation works of Riga city canal and canal bank in two stages. The first stage included excavation of the canal bed to the depth of two metres and reinforcing the banks from the Daugava to 13. Janvāra Street and from Eksporta Street to Kronvalda Boulevard. Where the top section of the historical wooden piling wall (a total of 252 metres) was preserved, it was dismantled and restored.
With the low height of the bridges over the Riga city canal and its narrowings, Skonto Būve Ltd. purchased special equipment which was adapted by the company experts according to the techniques of the work tasks. It was therefore possible to use an especially small multi-bucket dredger, dredge pump, tugboats with high manoeuvrability, and other equipment for cleaning and reinforcement work.
The second stage consisted of planting greenery. The canal stretching through the city centre has now acquired a new and tidy appearance to the satisfaction of residents of the city and guests alike.
